Ursus maritimus

One of the earth’s largest and most powerful carnivores, the polar bear is found in all the world’s arctic seas and coastal lines. In appearance, it differs from other bears in its longer neck, long narrow head and longer legs.
The polar bear may surpass the Alaskan grizzly in size, with the maximum recorded weighing 726 kg. Adult males often weigh between 400 and 500 kg. They are the most carnivorous of the bears, and their favourite prey are seals and young walrus.  In addition to their mainly meat diet, they graze on grasses, mushrooms, and berries.
When disturbed, it heads for open water at a rolling gallop at a top speed of about 40 km/h. They have, aside from humans, no natural enemies, but they occasionally fall victim to killer whales.
